We talked to Jon Dillon, Web developer at Western Washington University, who had lots of great tips to share!
The main goal of our customization effort was to seamlessly connect our LibGuides site with our main Drupal site. It has been a bit of a challenge to figure out which parts of the LG CSS to override but I'm pretty happy with the outcome.
Another thing worth mentioning is my use of custom boxes on the home page. I wanted a bit more flexibility than the default choices from the "Ordering of Content Boxes on the Homepage" section of Look and Feel. For example, I wanted my browse by group title to be different from the standard title and I wanted to include a hidden group on the list. I also wanted to separate most popular guides from the recent guides. Having the ability to use the preselected boxes AND/OR create your own is a very awesome feature and should be shared!
Here's a bit of what they did:
- Created a Custom StylesheetYou can view their custom CSS here. Some of the things it references include...
- Box Borders & Colors
- Custom Tabs
- Custom Banner
